BACKGROUND
One of the top ten global financial services provider used flexfield changing software to revise two of their Charts of accounts. They had been in production since 1997.

PROBLEM
They needed to change their accounting flexfields because they had run out of space on the values for several segments and they wanted to make the change before they upgraded to 11i.

OPTIONS
Before using that flexfield-changing software to conform their chart of accounts to their current needs, they looked at three different alternatives: a reimplementation of their Oracle Applications®, several consultants who claimed that they had done it with other companies and the software choice. They had no appetite for a reimplementation because of the large amount of history. After talking to the consultants, the company found that the consultants wrote custom code for each of their customers - that each project required different scripts that had to be developed for each accounting flexfield change. They selected the software option because it was repeatable and was built on a solid code base that was used elsewhere. Thay had checked references and received favorable replies.

RESULTS
The FlexField team did an excellent job, the project was a complete success, and the software operated exactly as described. We were very happy. We tested in several environments including a copy of the production environment. By the time we did production, it was boring. We had the process tuned and we had checked everything; there were no surprises. Our Oracle Applications® worked exactly as before with the changed chart of accounts and flexfields. Results at end of day were that we had 100% certification of all changed segments and had zero errors.
