Tips for Creating FSG’s - Part III

In the third tip of the Financial Statement Generator (FSG) report series, we explain how to create FSG reports that are reusable and easy to maintain. The FSG’s are powerful tools that can be used to produce a variety of traditional reports, such as balance sheets, profit and loss statements, income statements, expense analyses and gross margin reports.

DISPLAY STANDARDS

1. Format at the column level.
2. Factor at the column level.
3. Skip a line after each totaled row.
4. Underline before each total row.
5. Enter “No” in the “Display” field for all hidden rows.
6. Make sure each row type has the same display characteristics (i.e. all headers should have 0 spaces indented, titles should be indented 2 spaces, detail should be indented 5 spaces and totals should be indented 7 spaces. Skip a single space after each calculation and two spaces after each total row).

Decide whether to display the flexfield value or the flexfield description in the row order.
